What Happens After You Reach Out

Most calls and form submissions get a response the same business day, and always within one business day. The first conversation is short: what you are trying to do, where the house is, roughly when you want the work done, and whether you already have drawings or a budget in mind. That five minute call tells us whether we are the right contractor for the job, and it saves you from sitting through a sales visit for work we are not the best fit for.

If the project looks like a fit, we schedule a site visit. Mat walks the space with you, takes measurements and photos, checks the things that usually drive cost in older Central Massachusetts homes - framing that has been modified over the years, knob and tube or undersized electrical service, cast iron waste lines, rot behind siding and trim, sagging floor systems, and foundations that are not square. Nothing about a 1920s house in Worcester or a farmhouse in Barre is standard, so we would rather find the surprises before we write a number than after we open a wall.

You then get a written proposal with a real scope: what is included, what is excluded, allowances for tile, fixtures, cabinetry and countertops, and a realistic schedule. We do not use bait pricing or vague line items. If the proposal comes back higher than your budget, we will tell you honestly what can be phased, what can be simplified, and what should not be cut.

Licensing, Insurance, and Permits

Tolman Home Solutions is a licensed and insured Massachusetts contractor (CS-103336). We pull the building permits for our work, coordinate the licensed electricians and plumbers on the job, and meet the local building inspector at rough and final inspection. Massachusetts residential work falls under the state building code and, for most remodeling contracts, the Home Improvement Contractor program, which means you get a written contract, a payment schedule tied to progress rather than to deposits, and a paper trail on change orders.

Certificates of insurance are available on request, and we are happy to provide references from recent projects in the same town as yours. If your project touches a septic system, wetlands buffer, historic district, or a conservation commission review, tell us early - those approvals drive the calendar far more than the construction itself does.
