A client in Barre, MA wanted a covered farmers porch off the back of their home, somewhere to sit out of the sun and the rain and enjoy the yard. We framed it up, set the heavy timber posts, ran the roof, and laid down composite decking. Total project came in around $70k and we wrapped the build in about a week.
What We Did
- Poured footings and set pressure-treated framing for the porch deck
- Stood up heavy timber posts with knee braces for a true farmers porch look
- Framed and sheathed the shed-style roof, tying it cleanly into the existing house
- Installed tongue-and-groove ceiling boards under the roof for a finished look
- Laid down low-maintenance composite decking with a clean picture-frame border
- Built matching steps and finished trim, fascia, and drip edge
The Result
The homeowner now has a wide, shaded porch that doubles the usable outdoor space behind the home. The timber posts give it real character, and the composite decking means almost no upkeep, just enjoy it.
